There is a growing paradigm shift in city design as pressure mounts to come up with new, sustainable, environmentally friendly community planning. Tackling the problem of energy efficient construction is not easy, but is a problem that Nations Technology Trust, Limited (NTL), is undertaking to solve. "Many developers today are simply out their league," comments U.S. Project Director for The Emerald Cities Project, Sheri Roese. "In most countries where NTL is financing projects, developers talk about 'going green' but sadly few really know what to do or how to do it." They have launched the Emerald Cities Project, a "turnkey model city" that intends to combine sustainable infrastructure including solar power, wind power, waste to energy, water treatment, hybrid public transportation and solar Wi-Fi City-Net and other key technologies into city planning. The project will also design architecture with sustainability and energy efficiency in mind, as well as develop sustainable community economic models to revolutionize food and energy production. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts architecture jobs will increase 18% from 2006 to 2016, and prospects will be especially favorable for those working in sustainable design. |
