Much in the same way that artists seek to draw beauty from their surroundings, interior designers seek to make aesthetics their occupation and pursuit. These professionals draw on cultural influences, the principles of artwork and practical considerations to create motifs that turn space into atmosphere.

One interior designer and architect has gained accolades and fame by turning her innovative eye for décor into a career. Dianna Wong received praise recently after unveiling her most recent project, the W Hotel in Washington DC. In reviews, Wong's design has been described "whimsical", the "talk of the town" and "the inside of a jewel box."

The architect described the process of this design more as artistic conception than a construction project. She said that like Washington DC, the new hotel displays an "interplay between history and fashion, classic and sleek, monumental and sublime." She added, "Visually, this new W hotel is a delicate balance of restraint and sensuality."

Born in Hong Kong, Wong was educated at Harvard University and has been lead around the world by her ongoing architecture and interior design projects.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that the employment of artists and related workers is expected to grow 16% through 2016.
