Venture capitalist and former chief creative officer of video-game firm Electronic Arts Bing Gordon said that he thinks video game design is so important that learning it will be the new pathway to every facet of business in an interview with gaming industry website Gamasutra. "I'm a believer in the game-ification of the world," he said. "I think video game design is the new MBA. Video game design is valuable in education, in internet portals, in advertising, in product design, in entertainment media design as well." Gordon adds, "Video games are so compelling that people who grow up playing video games will have their habits and world views shaped forever." In the interview he says that the field of education could benefit from a more interactive approach, based on theories of game design. Major companies, too, should hire people who grew up playing video games and understand their appeal to a younger audience. "I think that any company that's trying to sell to people under 38 needs to be video game smart," Gordon said. The Entertainment Software Association reported that the video game industry took in around $11.7 billion in 2008. |
