Experienced equestrian skilled in horse management, rider safety, basic balanced position and skills on the flat and over fences. Extensive knowledge acquired through 7 years in Pony Club, riding with a trainer locally, as well as competing in Area VII of the USEA.
I volunteered at Happy Trails Therapeutic riding center for 3 years. I started as a bucket scrubber and poop scooper and finished my last year helping lead horses when needed and riding horses when needed.
As a member of Pony Club, I have learned study skills, time management skills, and have gained leadership experience. I am a nationally certified member. As a C3 I have had to pass 7 tests over the past 7 years to achieve this certification. In achieving this level I have had to mentor younger riders, plan and teach unmounted and mounted lessons, achieve horse management and equine care skills that are rigorous as well as ride at an advanced level. In addition to being a C3, I have been accepted as an examiner through the D3 levels for Pony Club. I have attended training and served as an apprentice prior to being named an examiner so I can evaluate a rider fairly, give them ample opportunity to show their knowledge, all while conducting a test in a supportive, friendly atmosphere. Finally, I give freely of my time to my club to support our younger members. This includes helping them study for their certifications, prepping them for Quiz or knowledge competitions, teaching unmounted and mounted lessons and performing safety checks on their horses once they have tacked up to make sure they are ready to ride safely. Pony Club has been an amazing experience and I have learned a great deal that I am eager to share with emerging riders.
I am part of the Bottle Brigade for bottle feeding orphaned kittens. We started as a family several years ago and typically raise a batch of foster kittens each season. I have graduated to co-foster parent with my mother. Taking care of kittens includes multiple bottle feedings day and night, bathing, cleaning their box, love and attention.
Duties have included wrapping and bandaging injured horses for owners, exercising horses for owners who are away, teaching and supervising younger students while they tack up their horse. Teaching grooming and general horse care and handling safety.
I currently have a 3.01 GPA at West Linn High School. I have participated on the school's Equestrian team, Track Team and am currently participating in Leadership class. I am running for Associated Student Body Council for the next school year. My course work is a combination of general and accelerated classes.
