  • Interviews potential clients in order to determine their eligibility for service and identifies conflicts and specific needs. Ensures the proper documentation and assistance with any client/victim visits, to include intake screening, conflict checking, and scheduling appointments.
  • Assists with proper management and tracking of client/victim case information. Tracks all legal services provided by the assigned office or region and responds to requests for information regarding services provided.
  • Prepares legal documents as assigned by the VLC.
  • Ensures confidentiality is maintained when dealing with any and all matters involving client/victim matters within the VLCO. Assists with uninterrupted service to clients/victims under circumstances of attorney and enlisted support staff transfers, and reassignments based upon military orders or other type of transfers. Provides continuity as the permanent staff resource whose duty it is to keep current with existing state and Federal legal practices and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements. Maintains liaison with various court and other public agencies to keep the practices and procedures of the VLCO current as requirements change.
  • Maintains current legal knowledge through annual continuing legal education, such as seminars and online training.
  • Maintains contact with clients/victims, all members of the Victims' Legal Counsel Organization; attorneys and support staff of the Legal Services Support Sections; members of Federal, state, and civilian agencies; officers of the court and members of the community; as well as members of the Base staff.
  • Meets with clients/victims to assist attorney in the preparation of, and provide information about, court appearances or to explain current agency practices.

  • Responsible for receiving requests for legal services, requesting supplemental information, drafting charges, and maintaining weekly case updates.

  • Provided training regarding the general functions of the Staff Judge Advocate's Office, administrative separations, JAGMAN investigations, sexual assault allegations, and other basic legal concepts to command leadership through the 2d MAW.
