In 1997 I was asked by Young Life International to re-locate to Jasper, GA and develop a camping facility and build a team for a future camp to be called SharpTop Cove, one of 27 camp properties operated by Young Life.
At that time, Young Life was in the process of purchasing 1100+ acres 60 miles north of Atlanta.
Over the course of nine years I lead and worked with a team of people to raise and invest $20 million dollars of capital to develop a premier camp.
Accomplishments during that time period:.
Worked with acquisition team to negotiate and purchase land for camp property.
Worked with a Development Board to raise $20 million dollars.
Interviewed and hired an architect and worked with Young Life Vice President and team of Young Life Staff to develop a master plan for site development.
Hired and worked with a project manager to lead the construction effort.
Recruited a diverse team of 25 full-time employees and created a service culture to oversee the operations of the camp as it developed.
Grew operating revenues from $250,000 to $2.75 million annually to create a self-sustaining budget.
Utilized diverse team members and 200 volunteers a year to operate the facility.
Most satisfying was to be a part of and witness the use of the camp for Young Life mission purposes of effective Christian outreach ministry.
Presently there is a 525 guest capacity used throughout the year with approximately 25,000 guests annually.
In my last six months I hired and trained a successor.
