Elton S. Karrmann Library - Acquisitions Assistant and Administrative Assistant has given me job commitment
•Attention to detail
My duties for the Acquisitions department include ordering, receiving, payment processing, item creation for all standing orders, periodicals, newspapers and electronic annual and irregular publications. This includes creating, updating and maintaining pattern records. I have had direct contact to initiate correspondence with vendors and publishers for claiming, cancellations, new orders, title changes and payment of invoices. The acquisitions and serials modules I use for new and renewing subscriptions and standing orders. I also have used the circulation, cataloging modules for more processing of items. I am familiar with and use OCLC to check bibliographic records used for reviewing new titles, title changes and title completion. To help monitor serial costs I do monthly reconciling for all Voyager and WISDM funds. When needed I assist in gathering and distributing the library's mail to the appropriate departments. Microsoft Office software is used daily in my creating and updating of databases, reports and memos.
Each month I gather the web statistics and enter the information for each web database into an excel spreadsheet with calendar year totals. Recently the library has changed to mostly online journals in which I will be gathering the statistics for the additional titles.
I have some training in the two other Karrmann Library assistant positions for Acquisitions.
I have assisted in the training and supervising of student help. I have always been willing to assist with other departments as needed.
One of my greatest accomplishments was being able to establish two UW-Platteville scholarships for my daughter, Katie Vaassen. Katie was very involved in UW-Platteville during her college career and two of her favorite organizations were Student Ambassadors and being manager for the men's basketball team all for years, 1999-2003. Katie passed in 2004 and later that year the scholarships were established, one for a Student Ambassador and one for a student involved in a UW sport but does not play. The candidates for the scholarships are recommended by either the student ambassador advisers or all the coaches of UWP. Then my husband, Terry and I choose the recipients we feel best fit the requirements we established for the two scholarships. Also, Katie's Garden located near the Platteville Chamber of Commerce was created in her name and my husband and I work very hard to maintain this garden for the Platteville and area residents. This means so much to give back to the Platteville community.
