While at Power Ops, I led a team tasked with developing, installing and implementing an Energy Accounting System (EAS) to allow PNM's NERC Certified System Operators to maintain and operate the Control Area in a safe and economical manner. I created operating guidelines as well as conducted training seminars for preschedule, realtime and after-the-fact personnel to learn and use the new system. Performed the duties of Transmission Services Coordinator which included complying with FERC 888/889 and the sale of available PNM transmission. I posted PNM transmission and facility outages as well as posted and maintained TTC/ATC on OASIS in accordance with FERC 890.
In addition to performing my responsibilities as a Transmission Services Coordinator, I assumed the responsibilities of webTrans system administrator. I participated in various projects which affect Control Area responsibilities which included working with organizations of which PNM is a member, WECC, SRSG as well adjacent Control Areas and generation operators creating e-tag scheduling templates for the purpose of scheduling unit specific energy out of the units and into and through the necessary Balancing Authorities.
I created, documented and implemented tools and schedules to allow PNM to dynamically account for and serve TNMP's southern New Mexico load when PNM merged with TNMP.
I represented PNM at the Southwest Reserve Sharing Group (SRSG).
I assisted WECC to implement the WECC Interchange Tool (WIT) which allowed WECC to calculate any Balancing Authorities inadvertent as well as average ACE which allowed them to determine which Balancing Authority was not participating properly.
I performed the duties of PNM System Operator which included maintaining the Control Area in a safe and economical manner. I worked closely with the Transmission Operator to insure customer's lights remained on while maintaining control area responsibilities to WECC, adjacent Control Areas and scheduling entities internal to the Control Area (LAC, PGT, TNMP)
I performed the duties of an Energy Broker which included marketing PNM's excess generation to Control Areas within WSCC and to SPS through PNM's Blackwater DC tie.
Worked closely with the System Operator to insure PNM had enough energy to supply our customers.
I purchased energy from others when necessary.
I began my career at PNM on March 1, 1984 in the Santa Fe Division.
During these 6 years of my PNM career, I held positions as a custodian, a meter reader, a cashier/data entry clerk and then on to Customer Service.
Completed PNM's in house System Operator training.
