As a reservist my duty calls from time to time as the military deems it necessary to deploy myself and my fellow military members in harms way for as long as the military needs. My regular duties are one weekend a month and two weeks a year for training.
As an Air force HVAC troop I have had the opportunity to flex my skills in many unique situations. From the notorious camp 6 at Guantanamo Bay Cuba, to Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and many places around the world and CONUS. My skills and experience as a civilian have given me the advantage to shine before my peers. Being recognized by the Undersecretary Of Public relations for the pentagon for my design that brought current USAF asset HVAC units noise levels down from 98 decibels to 63 on average. A change hat deemed the camps in a deployed location safe and livable where before they were not safe according to OSHA. My Proficiency in refrigeration systems, I.E. walk-in freezers and coolers saved over ten thousand dollars in food for the troops in Iraq when contractors could not keep food temps at safe levels. My skills and experience on boiler systems, commercial and residential air-conditioning, ice machines, large rack system for grocery stores, and large chilled water systems puts me in the position to be a very effective trainer and supervisor for troops coming up in the ranks. It is now more of my responsibility to train and supervise airmen in their daily tasks. I keep the shop MSDS updated and train troops on how to access that information. I train troops monthly on safety procedures according to government regulation and give guidance on career development upgrade training, trade education, and groom the troops to take on the responsibility of the next position in the ranks in order to maintain a line of confident HVAC personnel for the future of the Air Force.
The HVAC trade school for the Air-Force is a 40 hour a week 6 month course equivalent to a 2 year trade school.
