I am a creative and resourceful direct care and community service professional talented at quickly mastering new skills and processing new information. It is my personal belief that in order to provide the best direct care a consumer requires you have to understand the community in which they live. I am diplomatic and gracious with a desire to deliver exceptional customer service through direct care. As a Community Specialist I am adept at gathering and analyzing community cultural , educational , social and demographic data to develop local programs with exceptional communication and public speaking skills. Thanks to my dedicated service I have become a highly-motivated community service professional skilled at networking, media outreach and relationship development. I am a flexible and versatile team player who maintains a sense of humor under pressure and because of this I also provide excellent conflict resolution with consumers and employees alike. I am also pleased to say that I am a results driven professional with 13 years in the public sector who is highly personable , with extraordinary attention to detail and a talent for gaining trust.
Within 13 years I acted as the department's "go-to" person for challenging calls and as the primary mentor for new employees, volunteers and consumers alike. Recruitment was essential to expand Grace House's , B.A.S. and The Consortium's ever growing demographic so I spearheaded efforts to adopt and implement social media platforms, including Facebook and Myspace targeted towards the 13-25 + age range regardless of socio-economic status. In 2004 , 2006 , 2007 I received the "Volunteer's Service Award for Outstanding Performance" at Grace House/CYO for completion of the Midnight Run retreat which provides food and clothing for the homeless during the winter season.
As a team coordinator/Group Facilitator I addressed questions and concerns from the general public regarding a plethora of issues . I also gathered and analyzed data on community needs and interests. I Conducted need's assessments and referred clients to financial, medical, social and community assistance and services. Reviewed staff work and gave comprehensive and constructive feedback.I collaborated with community members to educate the public regarding issues such as drug abuse prevention and safety on a general spectrum.
Interviewed and assessed new clients each week. I also worked with clients with co-occurring disorders. In my 2 years time working with The Consortium based on each individual client I assessed their needs, selected and compiled relevant information and resources for clients to support them in overcoming mental and emotional problems and referred them to the appropriate and designated professionals to receive further treatment/therapy. Facilitated a weekly discussion group about relationship issues for men and women. Due to the fact I was working with a younger demographic I also administered discipline appropriately and set limits for behavior.
While working with B.A.S. now "BOOM!" I have done a plethora of volunteer service and outreach targeting the YMSM 13-21 age group. I also recruited many youth in the South Bronx are for testing. It was the focal point of B.A.S. and my own personal belief that the south Bronx had an extremely over-whelming percentage of YMSM that had no clue of their own status. Outreach and volunteer service , at this time , was much needed.
Finished with a 3.5 GPA .
