As a classroom teacher I developed lesson plans, created assessments both formative and summative for 30+ students per class. I used a variety of assessment tools to aid struggling students. I collaborated with colleagues on course content and delivery.
As the Math Department Chair I determined placement of teachers based on their expertise of content in the department. I helped develop curriculum guides and assessments. I created professional development activities that helped teachers learn how integrate technology into their lessons. I helped new teachers assimilate to the the department and school setting. I used surveys and group discussion to determine the needs and desires of the teachers in my department. I advocated on their behave to add programs that would meet the needs of our students.
As a classroom teacher I plan lessons for 3 courses a semester. At present I am teaching 2 classes of Math 3 students at the basic level and 1 honors level Pre-Calculus course. I create lessons and activities that help my students discover mathematics and apply what they have learned to real life situations. I use simulations, group discussion, videos, lectures, and team exercises to instruct my students at various levels. I assess the understand of the content by surveys, one on one interaction with my students, games, and formal assessments such as quizzes and tests.
I have created online instructional videos to aid my students in their studies and to keep them current with the class if they have to be absent. My class objectives for all lessons, units of study, and projects are communicated clearly to my students and are placed on my webpage for easy access. I created my webpage to be informative and interactive for my students and their parents to be informed of the direction and pacing of each of my classes. My webpage also houses my lessons videos from each content area that I have taught over the past 4 years. These videos are organized by content area and topic. I use many tools to make my classroom effective and inviting to all my students.
As department chair I have developed professional training for my colleagues on using the technology we have available to us through the school and free tools found online. Some of these tools are: PowerPoint, Intewrite Pad, Google sheets, Google Forms, Google Docs, Canvas, Study Island, Educreations (online video), and Kahoots.
I believe that I am an effective team leader and trainer. I have worked with curriculum development and course design. I love to learn new ways of engaging students in learning. I have been on the leadership team at the county level for about 4 years and have been certified as a 21st Century Mentor. For the past 3 years I have hosted interns from University of North Carolina in Wilmington. Two of my three interns have been hired by my school and others in the areas.
