Developed classroom incentive system, all academic plans for 5 different ability levels as well as working with students on art, physical activity and other enrichment activities. Did two years of summer school that included a week long team-building camp, with students, at Northern Illinois University's Loredo Taft facility.
Initiated a recycling program and won state recognition for outstanding program in 1995.
Collaborative member of team of 4 teachers working with students identified with mental illness, emotional disorders and severe behaviors at a private placement high school. Responsible for 8 student's Individual Education Plans, behavioral tracking and academic progress. Additionally, met with psychologists and psychiatrists as the need arose to meet the mental health requirements of our students.
Worked as a childcare worker on the 30-Day Evaluation Unit of a locked facility for children/adolescents with severe acting out behaviors, mental/emotional disabilities and substance abuse issues. Met weekly with therapeutic staff, including psychiatrist, distributed medication and maintained data to determine baseline behaviors, track medication levels and help determine placement of each individual on specialized permanent unit for continued treatment.
Realized through completion of the program that I was neither interested in Administrative Position, nor ready to leave the classroom.
