I am very detail oriented, and have extensive knowledge of phlebotomy skills and have many years experience in a laboratory setting. I am familiar with basic blood draws and all the tests that accompany the draws, blood culture prep. and collection, hospital computer power charting; ie placing laboratory orders, canceling orders, accessioning specimens, inputing patient information, printing labels and printing and reporting the data for the laboratory technicians. I am also skilled at precise documentation regarding the laboratory specimens.
In 1986, I was trained on the job at Bay Pines V. A. hospital in St. Petersburg, Fl. which did not require a certificate at that time. ( simply on the job/hands on training) That experience has opened up to other Phlebotomy and lab assistant jobs. Most recently, while working at Naples Community Hospital, they required a certification course which was within that hospital, however I did not receive a certificate on paper, only a lab jacket that stated I was certified.
I am responsible for covering for any absent teacher in a classroom. My responsibilities are to instruct the students as their teacher would and continue to follow their lesson plan.
My duties were to collect blood from the inpatients and bring it back to the lab to be processed, to process incoming specimens, answer phones, order tests on the hospital charting system called powerchart, cancel any duplicate tests, fax results to doctors and/or nurses. And to aid the lab technicians in anything they may need.Developed and maintained positive customer relationships through effective communication.Performed various administrative duties, including data entry and document preparation.Promptly and efficiently distributed specimens to different facilities and labs.
I ran the tennis center. I answered phones, make tennis court reservations and organized tennis events.
I drove to the nursing homes at 4:30 am and collected blood from the inpatients. Then I took the specimens back to the lab to be tested, where I finished my shift by drawing blood, collecting urine samples, administering drug screens, and performed EKG'S in the outpatient lab setting.
I worked in the VA lab drawing blood from the patients, assisting the lab technicians in their duties, answering phones, stocking supplies, and light filing.
