Responsible for development of construction strategy, funding, contracting, risk management, execution, and final delivery of all subsea and marine construction projects for BP’s Na Kika field

  • Lead a multi-functional team of construction specialists, commissioning engineers, and subsea project managers to support BP’s Na Kika 2.0 field development initiatives

Key Projects and Achievements

  • Performance-managed the EPCI contract execution for the Manuel Project, Subsea7's (S7) first EHTF flowline in the Gulf of Mexico
  • Oversaw BP's first deployment of remote inspection technology at an onshore construction site (S7's Vigra spoolbase) en lieu of onsite BP QC. This allowed EHTF pipe fabrication to maintain schedule and meet QC targets in spite of COVID-19 challenges.
  • Administered new risk-based continuous-improvement and self-verification and oversight (SVO) contractor management philosophy to BP project team and Na Kika EPCI partner. This resulted in more robust, standardized assurance and HSSE processes, better application of risk mitigations, and more concise readiness planning. These processes also reduced the necessity for BP QC oversight at most contractor worksites, lowering cost by $500K+ and reducing HSSE incident exposure.

Subsea Construction Manager - GoM & TT BP Americas Inc City, STATE,

Responsible for successful delivery of subsea and marine construction scope for multiple BP operating fields in the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) and Trinidad and Tobago (TT) regions. Role deliverables and accountabilities included:

  • Constructability input and evaluation, and development of construction strategy, procurement, contracting, resourcing, risk management, and execution plans prior to Company final investment decision (FID)
  • Commercial/contracts performance management; cross-functional interface SPA; internal construction resource administration; construction, project, and HSSE assurance compliance; and progress tracking, optimization, and reporting during planning stages
  • Approval of task and execution plans, stakeholder and project delivery team interfaces management; functional, corporate, and governmental governance process compliance; readiness and Go/No-Go decisions during execution stage.

Key Projects & Achievements

  • Developed and negotiated multi-campaign transportation and installation (T&I) contract with Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) for BP's largest offshore production platform in TT. Spanning worksites in three (3) countries during a 2-year execution period, the contract scope included flexible BP options and HMC incentives to minimize asset production deferral and mitigate risks associated with fabrication and installation vessel delivery delays.
  • Collaborated with EPCI contractor Technip to expedite deliveries and optimize the installation schedule for the new Thunderhorse South Extension (THSX) Project, resulting in First Oil seven (7) months ahead of schedule, reducing production shut-in in the TH field by over 50 days (7 million barrels of unrealized deferred production), and a savings of 15%+ on the EPCI lumpsum contract. Mutual goals and transparency by both Company and contractor yielded zero (0) change orders and zero (0) recordable injuries (zero RIF rate) despite the schedule acceleration.
  • Successfully performance-managed three (3) separate installation contractors working under T&M contracts simultaneously in the BP Atlantis field during the Atlantis SS2 Project. Complex SIMOPS and contingency plans developed for the offshore execution resulted in all original subsea architecture being recovered and replaced 12 days early with a best-in-class HSSE TRIR of 0.0 over 600,000+ manhours.

Asset/Project Manager Cal Dive International Inc. City, STATE,

Collaborated with Cal Dive's Business Development, Engineering, and Operations teams to provide efficient, safe, and economical solutions to clients.

Notable Achievements as Project/Vessel Manager:

  • BORCO OLJ Replacement Project (Freeport, Grand Bahamas Island): Installed eleven (11) ea. export pipelines from marine offloading terminal to shoreline in the Bahamas. Unique multi-national project scope included temporary onshore winch and barge mooring installations to facilitate pipeline beach-pull operations. Total contract value of ~US$70MM.
  • Northeast Gateway Pipeline Project and Suez Neptune Deepwater Port Project (Boston, MA): Flowline and export pipeline installation projects as part of the U.S. East Coast’s first offshore LNG offloading systems. Total contract values of ~US$120MM.
  • Chevron Colombia Chuchupa A/B (Santa Marta and Riohacha, Colombia): Flowline and export pipeline installation project, offshore Riohacha, Colombia. Included retrofit of pipelay barge firing line and tensioner systems. Total contract value of ~US$40MM.
  • Iroquois Gas Transmission Eastchester Extension Project (New York): Export pipeline installation with HDD shore approaches at Long Island and Bronx shoreline. Environmentally-sensitive project scope included subsea boulder removal, pipeline trenching, and rock backfill. Total contract value of ~US$110MM.
