INTRODUCTION My name is Lewis Joseph Smith, but I go by Joseph. I am a student, an amateur historian, a writer, veteran, husband, a father, and a teacher. Originally from Colorado, I have called California home since the Air Force stationed me at Travis AFB in 2010. Throughout my enlistment, I worked in Mental Health. Now, I use my Veteran benefits to be a full-time student, working towards becoming a secondary school Social Science teacher. I received my B.A. in History, with Honors, concluding the Fall of 2019. I am currently enrolled in SFSU's teaching credentialing program and am a student teacher at El Camino High School in South San Francisco, CA.
Under the guidance of a Cooperating Teacher, I plan and lead the daily activities and lessons for 12th grade Economics and 11th grade US History over distance learning. In large part, I used my Cooperating Teacher's curriculum, preferring to focus on improving my pedagogical skills. I have a different Cooperating Teacher for each class I teach, providing me with a varied source of guidance, pedagogical content, and curriculum. Although I primarily use Google Meets, I am proficient in Zoom instruction. I also have experience using Nearpod, Pear Deck, and Flipgrid. Despite learning so much over the past six months, I hope to learn even more over the course of the Spring Semester before I get my preliminary credential.
