I am a new, enthusiastic teacher with good leadership and communication skills. As a teacher, I want to provided strong quality instruction and have a positive learning environment. I am committed to creating a classroom atmosphere that is stimulating, encouraging, and supportive for all students. I enjoy working with others and collaborating ideas with other teachers to gain new knowledge.
I have completed two practicums, partnership, and am now in my second student teaching placement. I have observed and taught in all different grade levels. Through practicums I was able to be in a classroom every year. Partnership was heavily weighted on literacy and principles of instruction. During partnership, I spent four days at Cumberland Elementary in first grade. Half of each day was spent in my first grade classroom and the other half was for meeting with my college professors. I completed a Special Education course that allows me to teach Special Education for three years, if I get a masters in Special Education. All of these programs really prepared me for student teaching and were very useful.
Currently I am completing my student teaching. I have finished with my first placement in Kindergarten and will be moving onto fourth grade. During my placement I established positive relationships with students, parents, fellow teachers, and school administrators. I established clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects. In Kindergarten, I had experience with direct instruction for reading, through Fundations. My class' reading and math groups were chosen using pre-assessment and grouped using differentiated instruction levels. Reading groups were based on students guided reading levels and incorporated a variety of fiction and non-fiction books.
During the first semester of my senior year I observed and taught at Cumberland Elementary School on a daily basis. I tutored a struggling student in reading on a daily basis. While I was there I assisted in all subjects, planned a science unit, observed and assessed student performance. Using the school and classroom behavior plan, I took appropriate disciplinary measures when students misbehaved, but there were also rewards for excellent students.
Longwood requires all teachers to complete two practicums. The first practicum was a short observation in second grade for one week. While there I saw and analyzed how a classroom environment works. My second practicum was a month long observation in fourth grade. I was there longer to see how teachers planned long term.In both practicums I taught at least one lesson. They showed me hands-on experiences and helped prepare me for student teaching.
For almost two years I assisted in daycare classes. I have experience with all ages from newborn through sixth grade. I assisted teachers and taught classes. This was a great experience for learning and implementing classroom management.
I have worked at two different locations. While attending school I worked in Farmville and during student teaching I worked in Short Pump. Serving involves leadership, dedication, interpersonal skills, and time management. These skills are important skills for teaching.
