Distributed Control Systems
Responsible for supporting divisional superintendents, working with in-house and OEM engineering groups, parts and service vendors and vessel crews to support operations and maximize up-time, as well as reviewing OEM alerts and bulletins, writing and reviewing technical information bulletins and sharing lessons learned across the fleet.
Managed a group of twenty technical specialists in a 24-hour support center environment. Responsible for scheduling, housing and transportation for the group as well as managing the work flow of the center and evaluating the performance of the individuals on my six man team.
Worked at both the Controls and the Electrical desk in a 24-hour technical support center for over 140 offshore drilling rigs. Responsible for providing technical support of many different types of shipboard and drilling equipment with ages ranging from 1 to 40 years. Required to be capable of reading many different types of technical prints and manuals and assisting technicians from around the world in fault-finding and repair of electrical equipment and control systems.
Responsible for writing and reviewing preventative maintenance tasks for electrical and controls equipment on offshore drilling rigs. Required to review and respond to maintenance change requests from the end users based on experience, regulatory and OEM requirements. responsible for interfacing with the OEM to review and optimize the maintenance schedules for marine and rig equipment.
Lead controls commissioning technician in Astano shipyard during vessel construction. Led a maintenance team of thirty on a 42MW offshore drilling ship in the Gulf of Mexico. Team included welders, mechanics, motor operators, electricians and electronics technicians. Reviewed work orders, parts orders, work quality and preventative maintenance scheduling with the drilling and marine departments. Responsible for conducting daily safety briefings and weekly safety meetings with the crew. Responsible for training, reviewing and evaluating the performance of all electrical department personnel.
Worked as both a Sr. Electrician and a Sr. Electronics Technician while assigned to this rig. Responsible for preforming maintenance, troubleshooting and repairing all electrical and controls equipment on a self-propelled semi-submersible offshore drilling rig. Responsible for training junior electricians and technicians on board.
Worked on conversion of a service vessel to a drilling rig in AMFELS shipyard in Brownsville, TX. Led a team from two different contractors and an OEM representative to upgrade and recommission the vessel management and dynamic positioning systems on the vessel. Hired as a crew member by vessel owner (GMDC) at the end of the project.
Moved to Houston and opened a new branch office for GCS Service. Worked as the only OEM service technician in the south-east third of Texas for three months. Promoted to 'Senior' position as the branch office grew to five technicians.
Drove a service vehicle and managed service calls and an independent field service technician. Responsible for troubleshooting and repair of commercial food service, refrigeration, ice making and ware washing equipment. Customer service and relations were also a large part of the job as the technician was the face of the company to the equipment owner.
Transfered to Dallas, TX branch to be closer to family. Worked on a much larger volume and many different types of equipment in the much larger market of DFW.
Worked as an electrician's mate on a diesel-electric propelled submarine tender in Norfolk, VA. Responsible for the maintenance and repair of all shipboard electrical equipment. Sailed in support of Desert Shield / Desert Storm and also participated in relief efforts following Hurricane Andrew in Miami, FL. Achieved the rank of Petty Officer 2nd class before the end of enlistment.
