During my 19 years of being a successful educator, I have gained the knowledge and skills necessary to work in school improvement. I was a classroom teacher in both middle and high school grades for 19 years, 7 years as school improvement chair, 3 years as a state teacher leader under the State Board of Education in the school improvement section, and 1 year as a high school improvement coordinator. During my tenure as a high school teacher, I also held the positions in School Governance Council, SACS Steering Committee, Attendance Committee, Academic Team Committee, and Disciplinary Committee.
Working as a School Improvement Specialist has afforded me the opportunity to apply and practice the skills necessary to improve schools. My strengths include the ability to develop a working rapport with all staff members and create a vision of what is needed to have an effective school. I am able to assist teachers in turning theory into practice. After professional learning teachers are able to transfer the information to the classroom setting. Having data driven professional learning allows learning opportunities to become more focused and aligned to teacher needs to improve student achievement.
