Customer Service Attendants are the backbone of the food service system at the University of Missouri. Customer Service Attendants (CSAs) are responsible for interacting with customers, taking orders, and serving food on campus at the University of Missouri or Mizzou. All CSAs are ServSafe certified and are trained at many positions, particularly at my Location, Plaza 900. There are 5 fully functioning dining halls on Mizzou's Campus and Plaza 900 is the largest, serving as many as 2,300 students in one dinner shift (4:30-8:30) with as many as 68 employees working simultaneously at one location.
After being trained at all locations within the organization, I was promoted to Student Supervisor after 4 months, a very short amount of time.
As a Student Supervisor, I am responsible for training, coordinating, and evaluating all of the CSAs working my shifts. Either alone, or with up to two other Student Supervisors depending on the shift, I am responsible for maintaining the operation of Plaza 900. After all employees are in their correct position and trained properly, my role shifts to one of problem solver. Any problem that develops on the floor is my problem, whether that is a long line, a spill in the servery, and customer with a complaint or an order passed down by the management. There is one manager and 4 assistant managers that work at Plaza and they do not directly interact with the CSAs, the Student Supervisors provide the link. Student Supervisors pass down information from the managers to the CSAs either on the spot or in a Squad meeting that each Student Supervisor conducts once a month. All of the CSAs are split up into squads and each Student Supervisor has a squad. The squad meetings range from 30 minutes to an hour in length, during which the Student Supervisor communicates to his squad new expectations, changes in policy or problems that need to be addressed.
