Having worked in fashion retail for the past five years, I now desire to follow a career path in fashion design and styling. As a result of my fashion retail background, I have excellent natural sales ability. My roles at Cynthia Rowley, RUBY and other retail companies have further developed this through giving me practical experience with achieving sales targets, calculating multi sale rate of all store staff, liaising with the sales manager, product knowledge and stock control.
My Bachelor of Design has given me competence in the areas of pattern making, construction and fashion design as well as Digital Print Design, and Fashion Theory. These skills culminated in an award winning final collection, my designs being selected for the highly selective AUT University's Rookie 2012 show. My graduate collection was then picked up and represented by NZ's leading fashion PR company Showroom 22, who represents labels such as Karen Walker. Pieces from the collection have also been featured in multiple magazines such as New Zealand's premier style publication, Fashion Quarterly.
Since arriving in New York at the end of April I immediately found employment as a Sales Associate at the Cynthia Rowley boutique on the Upper East Side. My duties include: opening and closing of the store, selling, maintaining customer relationships, use of Lightspeed and the day to day running of the store.
Through this internship I gained great insight into an acclaimed designer label. My typical duties included: working with the SS12 collection, assisting the design team, picking up items in the fashion market, sourcing needed materials, fitting of models, liaising with vendors and cutting/sewing of the garments.
Retail assistant 2011-2012, promoted to Store Manager 2012-2013. My daily tasks included: selling and merchandising‚ banking‚ opening and closing of the store, along with day to day running and administration tasks required‚ achieving sales targets‚ staff training and coaching of three part time staff members‚ presentation of the store and staff‚ staff retention‚ product knowledge‚ stock control‚ maintaining and managing all budget requirements‚ participating in open and effective communication with the Sales Manager‚ timely and accurate reporting‚ customer relationships and store presence‚ conversion rate of store‚ and multi sale rate of all store staff. I was also credited with being the only store to successfully reach their target for the financial year.
