My professional background has been retail. I have over five years of customer service. Working in retail, I have learned how to handle money, operate machinery, basic office tasks, and have held a management position.
After my first year at Home Depot, I was promoted from a cashier to a garden associate. Then after the second year, I was promoted to a flooring specialist (each was a higher pay grade).
When I moved to Okinawa, I was hired at MCCS Tsunami Scuba. After 6-7 months of being there, I was promoted from sales associate to retail shift operator (supervisory role).
Coming back to the States to my current job at Ulta, I have been with the company for 8 months. On my review, my manager went over my progress with me. She stated that I am a quick learner, fast on my feet, and an essential worker. She always depends on me for early morning and overnight tasks, as well as truck delivery days.
I was hired as a seasonal-part time associate. After the holidays, my boss decided to keep me. Ever since my second week, I have been at the store on Thursdays for our truck delivery and asked to do overnight stocking, rearrange store layouts, even thorough store cleaning. 90% of my shifts are before store hours due to my boss trusting in me to get a lot of tasks done. I have offered to stay late many times to get a bunch of stock put out on the sales floor. During my review, my boss complemented me on my organization, attention to detail, being fast at completing multiple tasks assigned to me and then some. I have been reliable if someone needs to swap a shift and/or come in early. I always show up to work 15 minutes before my shift starts.
Working for Tsunami Scuba, I think that is where I grew more in retail. I started as a sales associate. After 6-7 months, my boss promoted me to a retail shift operator. In this position, I learned many things, especially how the military services want things done in their facilities. I learned how to handle the cash safe. I had to count for everything whenever I opened and closed. I had to; make sure all opening and closing procedures were completed and sign off on each one, supervise 5-6 people, handle unhappy customers if the facility manager was not in the store, handle late/overdue fees for our rental equipment, write staff schedules. I learned how to prep for inventory and check inventory paperwork, file all sorts of forms (i.e. money forms, end of sales day paperwork, cash safe forms). I also had to look over DAR paperwork (original forms about our sales, late fees that could not be collected due to no customer return) that would be sent down to the main headquarters building. I also had the opportunity to sit in for interviews for our location. My boss trusted me to run an one-man satellite store. I took scuba courses not only for fun, but to enhance my product knowledge and have better communication with my customers.
In the beginning with Home Depot, I was a cashier. I learned how to handle money and provide customer service.
Once I moved to the garden department, I had to learn how to use a fork lift and a reach truck. I also had to learn how to organize all the pallets of merchandise, as well as stock merchandise, and learn more about safety and hazmat procedures.
Moving on to the flooring department, I had the same tasks as garden, just inside the store. In addition to the same tasks/procedures, I did have to learn how the department filed paperwork for customer installations and orders and computer software. I was in charge of placing customer orders in excess of $10K. I insured customer satisfaction during their installations.
I was an A/B student, 3.0 GPA. I attended few clubs; Art Club, Future Business Leaders of America, Junior and Senior Student Council.
