I have been a Paraprofessional at the Wheaton Area Schools for 18 years. Two years prior to being hired as a Paraprofessional, I worked in our after school program, the Rainbow Room, and was a substitute Paraprofessional. During my years working in the school system, I have filled in as a substitute for Kathy Johnson.
I was a Swimming Pool Manager for 11 years. In this position I had to fill many office management duties, including, but not limited to...running office machines such as fax machines, copiers, computers, printers. I also had to keep meticulous accounting records for sales and also records to send in to Red Cross to document our Learn to Swim program. I dealt with the public on large and small issues, mainly problem solving. I worked under the City Administrator, the City Council, and the Park Board. Prior to being hired as the manager, I did two years as an observer and looking for ways to improve efficiency, employee relations, and customer service. This was under the direction of the Park Board.
In the past 10 years, I have been writing grants for the Wheaton Fire Department. I have been successful in acquiring new turnout gear, thermal imaging camera, and most recently I wrote a regional grant for the Traverse County Fire Departments, in conjunction with the Traverse County Sheriff's Department and the Wheaton Ambulance Department, to obtain new Radios. This was an extensive grant that involved working with many people.
