Before anything I introduce my self to each person that I come in contact with. Then ask them there name and birthday. My job is to obtain single or multiple blood samples from the patient for medical treatment. These patients vary in ages from 2 days old through 102 years. Also if necessary the patients may come in for a urine sample for Chain of Custody drug testing.
Students were taught the beginning and all areas in Phlebotomy. They were given the foundation of the first blood draw. They were taught the test and tubes for various lab test. The proper order of draw and the proper way to hold the vacutainer, to use a syringe, use a butterfly needles. Also how to do a proper fingerstick as well as heelstick for infants. Upon completion of the class portion then they did a internship to perfect what had been taught in 100 sticks. From there a certification exam.
Have been trying to obtain my Associates Degree in Science. Have not completed do to some personal reasons. Does plan to continue in future.
Took a number of classes to include: psychology, English, Math, History, Nutrition.
