  • Cared for patients suffering from airway insufficiency (asthma, COPD, pneumonia, emphysema, bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, acute respiratory distress), pulmonary edema, pulmonary embolism, pneumothorax, cardiovascular diseases such as myocardial infarction (heart attack), congestive heart failure, cerebral vascular attack (stroke), arrhythmias, unstable blood pressure other cardiac and vascular conditions, acute neurosurgery/neurological procedures, CNS diseases (multiple sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, ALS); high acuity post-op abdominal or thoracic cases, trauma, multi-system failure, renal failure, hemodialysis, metabolic disorders, DKA, , diabetes mellitus, need for glycemic control, acute and renal insufficiency- need of CRRT, severe bleeding, wound infections, seizures, DVT, shock, head injury, overdose patient, and spinal cord injury.

Monitored patients' breathing, respiration saturation, regulated ventilators provided (Ventilator/V60 BIPAP/CPAP Vent/Nasal High Flow setting) tracheostomy care, endotracheal tube care, and use of mechanical ventilator and its settings, promote Ventilator Associated Pneumonia care bundles, administer nebulization as ordered. Check ABGs/ CVBGs and interpret results monitored paO2, CO2, HCO3, Sats, ad lactate, used incentive spirometer and emergency equipment as necessary, initiate suctioning.
  • Competent in caring for patients using non-invasive blood pressure, use of cardiac monitors, check BP, heart rate and rhythm recognizing arrhythmias, obtaining 12 lead EKG, interpreting laboratory values, use of AVP/CVP. Observe lab results and act on abnormalities facilitated laboratory and diagnostic works. Assessment utilizing Glasgow Coma Scale, Richmond Assessment Sedation Scoring, CAM-ICU assessment. Monitor/assess pain- administered narcotics/ analgesia as prescribed, check/administer epidural/PCA morphine infusion. Diabetic glucose monitoring, insulin administration.
  • Maintenance and care of NG/NJ/JEJ/PEG tube, tube feedings, tube (PEG) care. Assessment of compromised nutritional and metabolic status and those requiring extensive fluid, TPN, and electrolyte management and enteral feeding. Update and made referrals to dietary/nutrition/speech and language therapy department.
  • Sought help from social service when need arose.
  • Evaluated bedsore potential, refer to tissue viability nurse if needed. Assessment of wound healing, use of pressure ulcer risk assessment (Waterlow Scoring), wound irrigation, dressing.
  • Knowledgeable of surgical drains. Check drainage system and note output. Monitor intake and output and over all fluid balance.
  • Administration and monitoring of blood and blood components, transfusion reaction management. Monitor for any massive hemorrhage and priority call out if needed.
  • Able to assist in the insertion and care of patients with central line following Matching Michigan protocol. Skilled in dressing changes and insertion of peripheral lines.
  • Assisted with lumbar puncture, performed NGT insertion, and catheter and drain removal (chest drains, Robinsons abdominal drains). Removal of stitched and use of appropriate dressing using aseptic technique.
