Offered professional development to faculty through workshops, book studies, and demonstration classes. Modeled and co-taught classes with Reading teachers and content area teachers. Substituted ("covered") classes as needed when substitutes were not available. Helped new teachers plan lessons and worked on student intervention strategies. Lead and/or participated in special literacy activities like Literacy Week. Planned and facilitated whole school reads initiative annually. Worked with administration daily to provide a safe learning environment for all students. "Pushed in" reading classes to be an extra set of hands or to work closely with a small group of students in a rotation style classroom. "Pulled out" students needing individual attention. Planned and implemented FCAT "boot Camps" on Saturdays and assisted teachers with after school tutoring.
Instructed high school freshmen in county selected Prentiss-Hall Language Arts curriculum. After long term substitute position hired full time and switched to Reading instruction. Provided balanced literacy instruction to remedial readers from ninth through twelfth grades. Attended a variety of professional development workshops centered on classroom management, curriculum, reading strategies, to name a few.

Taught sixth, seventh, and eighth grade English in small private school. Instructed through lectures, discussions and demonstrations in novel studies, grammar, spelling, and vocabulary in a traditional school setting. Also taught Drama elective course.
Completed degree in Theater with Dance minor at Johnson State, which is part of the University of Vermont system. As a junior and senior, participated in a traveling college performing arts troupe by leading workshops throughout Vt at local high schools and community centers. Traveled abroad for a semester in France with a focus of study in Pantomime, French History, Theater, and Dance. Continued with graduate education the following year (1976) working towards an MAT degree. Began teaching prior to completing my Master's degree.
