I am currently employed by Saline County Health Department as a Communicable Disease Investigator/ Public Health Emergency Preparedness assistant. I investigate any communicable disease that is reported in Saline County. I also do TB testing and give immunizations. As for the Emergency Preparedness part of my job, I am G800 certified in Incident Command, I am a certified PIO and am constantly attending Emergency Preparedness education.
I am also a senior at K-State and will graduate in May 2019. I am majoring in Human Development with an emphasis on Psychology. I am planning on attending graduate school and hope to get a graduate degree in Psychology.
Before my employment with The Saline County Health Department I was a volunteer recruiter and facilitator for the Kansas Guardianship program. It is a state funded program that finds legally appointed advocates for vulnerable populations. I traveled all over the state and often am going into communities where I do not know anyone and have the job of finding volunteers. Our volunteers are often dealing with people that have criminal records and come from challenging situations. I oversee around 100 volunteers and I am responsible for all monthly paperwork, which include the monthly accounting and conservator reports and making sure they balance out.
As a nurse I have dealt with a multitude of people and situations. I have learned how to comply with state regulations and the importance of doing so. I understand universal precautions and blood and body fluids do not bother me. I gained supervisory experience both at Countryside, where I was the supervising Licensed Practical Nurse and being the school nurse at Solomon. At Countryside I worked with the insurance companies, medicaid, the residents and their families, doctors and pharmacies. As the school nurse for the Solomon School District I gained a new perspective, being the only medical professional employed by the district. I worked closely with staff and students on medication administration and procedures. I was also in charge of the vision and hearing testing and scheduling immunization clinics.

I am a Communicable Disease Investigator and assistant to our Director of Emergency Preparedness. I work on a daily basis with the public. I investigate any communicable disease that is reported in Saline County. I do an interview with both the doctor and the client/patient. I then enter all of the information into the computer and decide if it is an actual case, which if it is I send a report to KDHE. I give TB tests to anyone that requires one, which can be clients from the Rescue Mission to teachers or medical professionals. I help with immunizations when needed. I have taken all of the Incident Command courses and am continually attending Emergency Management classes and workshops to stay current. I helped implement a workplace wellness plan for all Saline County employees and have attended several workplace wellness workshops as well as some mental health positive outlook workshops. I am on the Employee Management Committee and help the clinic employees have a voice when it comes to county issues.
I was a volunteer recruiter and facilitator for the Kansas Guardianship program. I went all over the state and recruit people to be legally appointed conservators and guardians for adults with intellectual disabilities, mental illness and the frail elderly. The people we matched with volunteers have been referred to our organization from Adult Protective Services. I was essentially selling the volunteer experience, which in this case can be very challenging, as many of the people needing advocates come from challenging circumstances, and do not always want to be advocated for.
I was the supervising LPN at Countryside Estates. I performed patient assessments, passed medications, administered treatments, wrote care plans, educated residents and their families on health related issues, made sure all staff was in compliance with state regualtions and kept records.
