Experience
01/2009
ProfessorCoppin State UniversityBaltimore
  • so when I was asked to devise a plan recruitment strategies, job descriptions and etc to employ 6 parents on a part time basis.
  • This was successfully done and is, still, in use in the school after several years.* As an extension of the language arts program at a local middle school, while I was an assistant principal, I developed the plan, organized, contacted local journalists, made preparation for student transport and lunches of students from nearby middle schools, planned a week of writing workshops and developed concluding exercises for the week of literary activities; the workshops continue to this day.
  • Leading People - As an administrator, I had an open door policy for all employees of the schools where ever I was assigned.
  • Conferences were held to quell disagreements among staff members, to assist in implementing new procedures or programs and to help with personal problems affecting job performance.
  • As an administrator and as a fellow teacher, I often demonstrated lessons, assisting in preparing plans and resolving issues that arose.
  • I used different approaches for cooperative teamwork so as to involve more people and to keep groups from being too clickish.
  • As the leader of any group, I would devise means to find out each members goals, personal and professional; whenever opportunities arose in the members' area of interest, I would notify them of the opportunities.
  • Whenever there was a conflict about a directive, I had no problem conferring with the individual one-on-one to resolve the issues.
  • Most were very successful resolutions.
  • Results Driven - As an assistant administrator on all levels, I not only handled discipline, but in many instances, operated buildings, supervised staff, evaluated staff, conferred with angry parents, conferred with contrite staff, and made decisions affecting school climate and safety.
  • In addition, I planned budgets, wrote school level grants, analyzed test data to present to staff and to parents, used statistics about school progress, attendance and safety to present to the school boards at various times and assisted in scheduling of high school students in the building.
  • Business Acumen - In planning for staff, it was necessary to consider the school's budget.
  • In order not to lose staff, as much as possible, class loads had to be increased; however, the reasons for doing so were always explained to the staff.
  • I did this to gain credit ability and the confidence of the staff that the action was not arbitrarily done.
  • Important information was written and distributed, as wells, as discussed in formal meetings.
  • Staff opines and ideas were welcomed, the ought not always conducive to obtain in desired/required goals.
  • Building Coalitions - Having worked in community wide situations and in the public area as an educator, I have gained experience and knowledge of nonprofit and profit structures, various governmental agencies and inter-office agencies and how each one may be used to assist the organization to which I might be aligned.
  • I have learned how to prepare press releases and public speeches, as well.
