I have worked in mathematics education in 2-year and 4-year colleges in the Northeast since 1988, as a professional tutor; as coordinator, acting director, and assistant director of academic support centers; and as assistant professor on math faculties. In May 2013, I retired from my position as assistant professor of mathematics at Northern Essex Community College. Now I am free to return to my first love: individual and small group mathematics tutoring and counseling, and to continue my ongoing research into how students might recover from negative experiences, habits, and mindsets to become successful mathematics learners.
