Instructional Leadership - Transformed the 3-5th grade teams to form departmentalized teams. Redesigned the work of Professional Learning Communities to allow for collaborative planning across grade levels in primary and across departments in the intermediate grades. Restructured the master schedule to allow for common PCP times across grade levels for additional collaborative planning time. All of these additions allow for more time to focus on instructional implementation including analysis of student work and authentic data-driven instructional planning.
Community Based Partnership - Cultivated the importance of partnerships that are aligned to the goals of the school. City Year and Communities in Schools are two of the partnerships that have added to the additional stffing needs to address attendance, behavior and coursework improvements.
Interventions/MTSS - Hired a full time counselor, math coach/interventionist and literacy coach interventionist. Adopted a social-emotional program (R.U.L.E.R.). Redesigned the extended day intervention opportunities for math and reading. Redesigned School Intervention Team procedures to include steps that consider specific needs around social-emotional support and extensive ?extended day intervention options.?
Instructional Leadership - Redesigned the intermediate team to reflect departmentalized teams. One instructional partner taught literacy and the other partner taught math/science. Researched and adopted and implemented Math in Focus as the school math curriculum with the financial support of PTA.
Family Partnerships - PTA support for additional resources and materials for staff and students in math and literacy continued to be a great partnership under my leadership. Families and principal worked together weekly to make decisions with student success at the center of all decisions.
Instructional Leadership - Strengthened collaborative planning by leading bi-weekly collaborative planning time with each grade level and bi-monthly literacy meetings with the entire department. Developed teachers by observing and giving immediate feedback. Was part of the team that transformed the work of our extended day programs by initiating Book Clubs and School Break Camps. Ensured that instruction aligned by working with grade levels to create scope and sequence and coordinated high school pathway meetings.
Professional Development - Led teacher teams to Columbia University's Teachers' College for Reading and Writing Workshop and district developed instructional development. Co-desgined in-house professional development with teachers and Teachers' College Staff Developers. Modeled and taught mini-lessons at department meetings, as a lab model for teachers to observe and for teachers to observe one another.
School Culture and Instruction - Collaborated with district literacy coaches and staff to develop classroom libraries, filled with high interest and culturally relevant books. Partnered to create an on campus program that works with students on goal setting and recognizing the effect of their choices on their future.
Family/Community Partnerships: Through Denny International Middle School's partnership with the Nesholm Family Foundation, I was selected to serve as Assistant Principal/Literacy Lead. Denny was selected as one of ten schools across the nation to receive the Alvin Ailey Dance Foundation - Revelations: An Interdisciplinary Approach through the Seattle Theater Group. I served as School Liasion who coordinated the schedule, practice, performance, media day, and field trip.
