POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW
Accomplishments
  • Inflammation and chronic kidney disease A.
  • Personal Statement I am currently a postdoctoral fellow in the Laboratory of Dr.
  • Ganesan Ramesh in Vascular Biology Center at Georgia Health Sciences University.
  • The focus of the current research project is to understand the anti-inflammatory role of netrin-1 in the acute and chronic kidney disease model.
  • My academic training and research experience so far have provided me with an excellent background in multiple biological disciplines including molecular biology and biochemistry, especially in the field of inflammation.
  • In my master's graduation project, I partially purified and characterized the key inflammatory enzyme phospholipase A2 (PLA2) from Indian cobra (Naja naja) venom.
  • As a predoctoral student, my main research work was to derivatize hydrophilic antioxidants to a hydrophobic molecule without affecting its antioxidant activity and study its therapeutic aspect against snake venom and inflammatory PLA2 induced inflammation.
  • Through this study we have obtained several interesting results, which leads to publications in peer reviewed journals.
  • Further, in my postdoctoral training, I have continued my inflammation research in the acute and chronic kidney disease model.
  • We used specific transgenic and knockout animals and cell lines to understand the role and regulation of endogenous anti-inflammatory molecule, Netrin-1 in acute and chronic kidney diseases.
  • Current research led to publications in peer-reviewed journals and our findings have also been discussed in the recent edition of Nature Review Nephrology.
  • We are also studying the effect and regulation of cytokine IL17 in diabetic nephropathy and in different type of fibrosis model.
  • As a postdoctoral fellow, I have the required expertise and positive motivation with specific training to successfully carry out the assigned project.
  • B.
  • Positions and Honors Positions and Employment 2005 - 2007 Trainee Scientist, CAS-Bio Project, Jubilant Biosys Pvt Ltd.
  • Mysore, India.
  • 2007 - 2008 Guest Faculty, Biochemistry Department, University of Mysore, India 2011 - Present Post Doctoral Fellow, Vascular Biology Center, Georgia Health Sciences University, Augusta, Georgia.
Experience

09/2010 to 09/2015Bickford Senior Living
  • Netrin-1 signaling in ischemia reperfusion injury of the kidney.
  • Major Goal(s): To determine the mechanisms whereby netrin-1 production is regulated and the mechanism whereby netrin-1 protects kidney epithelial cells against ischemia reperfusion injury.
