Monitor the equipment including controlling instruments, ensuring their proper function and schedule and assist with maintenance if necessary. Also in charge of shutting down or otherwise handling equipment during an emergency. Administrative tasks include recording test results and other data germane to a plant's operation. They also keep an eye on test results over time and suggest adjustments to the manufacturing process as necessary. They then relay those findings to supervisors and other managerial personnel.
For portions of the year, I worked in Maintenance performing the duties outlined below. Also worked with the Maintenance Department during outages.
Performs all required maintenance (repairing, rebuilding, replacing, inspecting, record keeping) on pumps, fans, filters, piping, valving, conveyors, drives, heavy rotating equipment, agitators, bulk handling systems, etc. Performs preventative maintenance on critical components of Kilns, Rotary Dryers, Vacuum Filters Mills, hoist, packaging, conveying, boiler, and air compression equipment. Performs welding, pipefitting, layout, and sheet metal work as required to repair or replace existing equipment. Operates cranes, lift trucks, man lift carts, generators, pumps, lathes, presses, threaders, saws, drill presses, etc as required to support maintenance activity. Participates in major projects such as kiln refractory repair or replacement, pollution control equipment upkeep, equipment and full plant outage related tasks, etc. Completes rigging for movement/lifting of equipment and piping. Performs rotating equipment millwrighting as needed. Completes all life critical safety procedures such as lock/tag/try, hot work, confined space entry, line breaking, etc., also including safety watches, gas atmosphere testing, etc. to satisfy all Elementis safety system requirements. Mechanic is expected to have at least one primary craft and at least one secondary craft including recognized skills such as millwright, steel welding, alloy welding, pipe fitting, rigging, general mechanical. Mechanic is required to have basic computer skills necessary for time keeping, parts ordering, work order manipulation, web-based training modules, etc.
Participated in the maintenance, troubleshooting, replacement, repair, and testing of energized equipment and circuits; installs electrical conduit systems, feeders, branch circuits, panel boards, transformers, disconnects, variable frequency drives, and other related electrical equipment and systems according to national and local electrical codes; and, examines various electrical systems and makes recommendations for new equipment, repairs, and modifications.
