Hiking, fishing, accomplishing something challenging and new

One of my favorite things to relieve stress is to get outside and breath in the fresh air. There is something cleansing and exhilarating about being out in a green space or on the water that improves my mental health and happiness. I enjoy the challenges and mental break involved in fishing. Recently I went on a deep sea fishing trip that brought me back feeling accomplished and refreshed. As we boarded the boat I left the problems of every day life on the dock. The further the boat goes away from shore, so do the stressors of life. My mind feels clear and focused in the waves, and the challenge of catching the big one. By the time we made it back to shore the weight on my shoulders was much lighter and my mind was recharged. This makes the following days of work and every day hustle a whole lot easier.

Going for a walk or hike does the same kind of clearing for me. It gives me a moment to enjoy the surrounding breeze and live in the moment. It is a great way for me to reboot and take on the next challenge.

To finish off I would like to explain why I enjoy accomplishing something challenging and new. First off, I like to stay busy. Second, who doesn't like to have victories in life? When I have the opportunity to take on a challenging task that in the end leaves me feeling accomplished, I get energized. These challenges don't always have to be big, but sometimes having small accomplishments add up to a larger one. They give just enough boost so that when a bigger challenge comes along I have the energy and confidence to take it to the end.
