I am currently a freshman attending UNCP. I have had a wonderful freshman year of college and learned many new skills that will help me with my career. I have always wanted to be an elementary teacher because I want children to be able to get the best teaching that will help them to become successful in their lives. When I was growing up I had some really tough teachers that were not helpful and I don't want that for future generations. I am the type of person to give 100% in what ever I am doing. I am a very loyal and trusting individual. I can easily relate to children and I don't get frustrated easily.
I have played softball since I was a little girl and throughout many years I have received a couple of overall best player awards. I was a pitcher but I also was very encouraging with teammates even if they made a mistake. I have been told that I work very well with others. Color guard in the marching band also played a huge part in my high school career. I received a letter for my outstanding accomplishments in the marching band. I very fortunate in receiving a veterans scholarship for college. The scholarship required many letters of recommendations plus many essays and interviews. This scholarship is very hard to get but I my hard work paid off and I received it.
At my church I volunteer to help out in the nursery when they are low on staff and need help. I absolutely love to work with children and to watch them. I play many activities with the children and also take them outside to have a few minutes to play. I help with many arts and crafts which are fun to make!
I was very lucky to get into a class called P.E.P.I. During my senior year of high school I went to many elementary schools in Cary and played games with children. I had 5 different classes that I went to everyday for an hour during school. I was responsible for teaching them and also making sure that they were active. I had variety grades from Kindergarten to 5th grade. I can easily relate to all of the different grade levels. My goal was teach them about parts of their bodies and also to come up with clever games to keep them active. At the end of my senior year it was very hard to say goodbye to each of my P.E.P.I classes and the bonds I had formed with each of the students.
I have helped out many families and babysat. My aunt has many grandchildren and has to watch them most of the time. To help her out I watch them sometimes so she can take a break. I have had experience in changing diapers, bottle feeding, and crying babies. I also have had many experiences with watching multiple children at once and relating to them all and make sure they are all cared for at the same time.
I have now completed my freshman year of college. It was a wonderful experience where I made many new friends and experienced different possibilities. I absolutely love my college and my major is elementary education. Ever since I was a little girl I have wanted to be a teacher. I had the honor in receiving a veterans scholarship that helps pay some of my schooling. This was a very hard scholarship to get and I was very proud of myself when I found out that I had received it.
