• Independently provides advanced for Enterostomal consults, (veterans with wound, ostomy and continence skin issues)
• Provides focused assessment, plan of care as recommendations, collaborates with the physicians, CRNP's, PA's and RN's, patient and family members
• Provides accurate documentation related to patient treatments, goals, and response to plan of care utilizing the CRPS electronic record system.
• Provides education to the staff in accordance with evidenced based research in conjunction with WOCN and policy and standards of care at VAPHS
• Daily chart audits along with one on one education with the nurses to ensure the recommended interventions and treatment plan are being followed
• Quality review of day to day consults to verify the appropriate wound care orders were entered into CPRS by the MD
• Reevaluates therapeutic responses and makes clinical modifications to progress toward established goals and outcomes
• Chair the Pressure Ulcer Interdisciplinary Team (PUIDT)

With three decades of clinical experience largely centered toward direct patient care, currently serves as the Advanced Practice Wound Care Specialist for the Veterans Administration Pittsburgh Healthcare System. The advanced practice wound specialist evaluates veterans wounds, determines the etiology, makes recommendations for their wound care. A graduate of Community College Allegheny Campus, began my nursing career working in critical care. In 1993, earned her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from Clarion University of Pennsylvania, graduating Cum Laude. Transferred to West Penn Hospital in the critical care units. In 1997, transferred to the home care department where became IV and chemotherapy certified. In 2004, achieved Clinical Nurse III status. West Penn sent her to the M.S. Turnball Jr. School of Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing(WOCN) at the Cleveland Clinic Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio, where she earned the certification in Enterostomal Therapy /Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing (ET, WOCN). Prior to coming to the VA, she worked as a Senior Professional WOC Nurse at UPMC St. Margaret. Completed Masters of Science in Nursing in 2014. Became an adjunct nursing faculty at the Community College of Allegheny County from 2012-2019. In 2016, enrolled in a Family Nurse Practitioner, she had always aspired to become a nurse practitioner to care for the entire patient. Holding a FNP with a WOCN certifications will aid the VAPHS. Recommendations for wound care will not have to be placed on hold till a provider enters the orders. Wound care orders can be implemented when entered into the e record. This will benefit the veteran by decreasing any waiting times.
