After being hired in 2011 as a Per Diem Pyxis Technician, I was quickly trained in all other areas of hospital pharmacy. Therefore, I was able to pick up shifts in the IV room, outpatient infusion center, the emergency department and third shift.
My duties at Kent currently include: accurately pulling medications from the shelves for Pyxis replenishment and delivering them to the various patient care areas; efficiently answering multi-line phones and processing high volume of order requests from nurses, doctors and pharmacists; maintaining proper compliance logs, including for refrigerator temperatures and IV hood maintenance; filling departmental requisitions and crash cart medication trays, preparing both Chemotherapy and non chemo IV medications per USP 797 standards, and reconciling medication lists for patients being admitted through the emergency department.
Assist veterinarians with day-to-day operations of the hospital. My duties included but were not limited to aiding in delivering medications and performing procedures on animals, making and assisting with regular appointments, kennel responsibilities such as cleaning and taking care of pets while in our care.
Responsible for entering new patient profiles and prescriptions into medication input software system, providing friendly customer service at prescription drop-off and pick-up counters. Communicated directly with doctors' offices via telephone, fax and email. Worked closely with pharmacists and used medication input software to safely and accurately dispense medication. Managed pharmacy inventory through proper medication ordering, returns and inter-store transfers.
I began working at Brooks Pharmacy as a cashier in the front store when I was 16. On my 18th birthday, I moved to the pharmacy upon the pharmacy manager's request and began my career as a pharmacy technician. I provided friendly customer service at prescription drop-off and pick-up counters, worked closely with pharmacists and used medication input software to safely and accurately dispense medication, answered and screened phone calls for the staff pharmacist in a friendly, efficient manner and verified patient data and billing information.
