This includes training and mentoring drivers from beginner though journeymen level to drive a variety of vehicles and equipment. An emphasis is on training new drivers to tow aircraft. This training includes connecting the tow tractor to the aircraft, then then ensuring drivers know how to coordinate with FRC Production control personnel for wing walkers, chalk walkers, break riders, a director, an escort, and other personnel needed to move aircraft throughout FRC's area of operation. Skill development for drivers to obtain sufficient ability to operate an aircraft tow tractor and tow aircraft requires daily maneuvering exercises for 6 weeks to 4 months. Also teach drivers how to connect tractor trailers, drive/shift gears, and safely back and maneuver. How to safely load a trailer, assess load for size, weight distribution, and how to properly secure the load using chain and binders, straps, ropes and other devices is a major part of training. Skill development for driving tractor trailers is progressive. It requires several months of close mentoring by a worklead to ensure the safe operation by the driver. Other training includes driving buses, learning bus routes and having professional interactions with riders. More training includes airfield sweeper operations. This includes all aspects of operating an airfield sweeper truck and how to properly interact with the airfield tower to sweep the airfield and follow airfield movement protocol. Other responsibilities include issuing work assignments to drivers and ensuring they understand those assignments with the ability to fulfill those assignments safely, timely, and to the satisfaction of the customer. Also solicit feedback from drivers to identify and solve any problems they might have. Coordinate with maintenance regarding work on vehicles. Data entry including SLDCADA, ESAMS, MAXIMO, development of forms and record keeping are also responsibilities.
