My career path has been varied, but by earning an education at Texas Tech University I discovered my calling as a teacher. Previously, I have worked as a long-haul truck driver and in restaurant management. The former I worked for over three years and the latter I worked for almost four years. Restaurant management taught me how to oversee numerous types of personalities and merge them into a cohesive working unit. Trucking gave me an opportunity to explore the United States and southern Canada and gain a greater appreciation for our nation, the diversity of its people, and its many interlocking parts.
With Little Guys, I was expected to safely transport customers' furniture, appliances, and other possessions from their old dwelling to a new one or to a storage unit. On occasion, I drove the trucks, but I was usually just helping to navigate. Time after time, I helped successfully get household appliances down flights of stairs and into our trucks, then would safely transport these valued items into a new location.
I was successful in delivering bulk food items safely and on time from the Family Dollar Distribution Center in Odessa, Texas to retail stores in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, Nevada, and Idaho. At the deliveries, I unloaded anywhere from 37,000 to 45,000 lbs of freight in a day.
As a driver for Lisa, I delivered refrigerated goods to all of the lower 48 states, with the exception of North Dakota, and to parts of southern Canada. I successfully and safely logged over 500,000 miles for this company and was considered to be a reliable employee. It was my responsibility to maintain the quality of the load by carefully maneuvering the tractor trailer, and ensuring the freight was kept at the proper temperature throughout transport.
For the first several months I worked at Gatti's, I was a delivery driver. After being moved up to assistant manager I became responsible for ensuring that customers' orders were taken care of properly and that the other employee were performing their jobs correctly. I also, became the overseer of the store's weekly inventory and profit reports, and on occasion, I made the weekly schedule.
At Texas Tech I will also be earning a minor in Secondary Education. I have earned my degree while maintaining a GPA higher than 3.7, and I also had the privilege of being inducted into Gamma Beta Phi, an honors society that performs charity and service in the greater Lubbock area.
