Employed by TMH for nearly 5 years, I rotated shifts and departments for 2 years, being proficient at Hematology, Chemistry, and Blood Banking and Phlebotomy. I took the Micro specialty exam and then worked in the Microbiology department performing culturing and identification of bacteria and fungus, assays in serology, and urinalysis.
Employed by CGI for 4 years, I helped design experiments to innoculate Zea Mays with a GMO, monitoring the progress of said experiments, taking the plants to the greenhouse and then field testing. I established quality control procedures for laboratory tests, performed histologic sectioning and staining of corn tissue to confirm colonization of plants.
Promoted to Insectary Supervisor responsible for scheduling of day to day tasks of 8 employees, maintaining an insectary of beet army worms, cabbage loopers and diamond back moths. Our project was to develop insecticides from viruses retrieved from dead insects, with the goal of manufacturing natural viruses instead of pesticides. it eventually went to market under the name of Spod-Ex.
Working here for 4 years, I did routine culturing of specimens and identified bacteria and fungus, and also performed strep screening. Evaluated gram stains, India Ink, and scotch tape preps in addition to performing ova and parasites, and doing serology assays. I worked with infection control to report suspected cases of nosocomial infections and to educate new employees in proper hand washing technique. On occasion helped to evaluate new products, test assays and media.
As a homebound teacher I am the go between from the classroom setting to the students home. I collect work and supplies from the classroom teacher and present instruction to the student. I also monitor quizzes and tests. At any given time I may teach 8 to 10 different subjects to 5 to 7 students, high school and middle school.
I am a 4H Organizational Leader for 10 years. I process all the applications and field trip forms for my club,gather project books and facilitate our monthly meetings. We plan community service projects, field trips, do public speaking, and STEM activities.
