Chemistry was fully automated with the KODAK 500. Performed testing such as BMP, CMP, urine chemistry, hormones, and therapeutic drug testing.
Hematology duties included use of Coulter analyzers. Performed differential counts on a diverse military and veteran population. Manual testing included sedimentation rates, sickle cell screening, and malaria smear reading. Body fluid analysis on synovial, pleural, peritoneal, and CSF specimens were constant tasks performed.
Coagulation was partially automated. Test performed were PT/INR, APTT, and Fibrinogen levels. Manual included mixing studies, FDP and D-Dimer tests.
Urinalysis used an automated analyzer named IRIS. Performed confirmation urine chemistry manual testing.
Microbiology duties included specimen setup and manual kit tests such as meningitis testing and C. Difficile.
Work was performed on all shifts and consisted of solo twelve hour shifts on weekend assignments.
