Months later my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer and at the same time my best friend*s father passed away of pancreatic cancer. Every year I walk the breast cancer awareness walk *Susan G. Komen* with my mother. This activity has expanded my understanding about the positive impact that simple acts of solidarity have on the mental and physical well being of the people that struggle with consumptive and deleterious illnesses such as cancer.
