I am currently a Medical Assistant with 2 years work in a fast-paced environment handling confidential paperwork, administering medication and providing quality patient care. I am hardworking and skilled at wound care, mobility assistance and charting. I am highly flexible and willing to work most shifts. I can also understand and speak some Spanish.
I have observed and documented patient status and reported patient complaints to the nurses or doctor. Working in an orthopedic doctors office requires me to take notes and chart on patients everyday during clinic. I have read and recorded blood pressure and pulse whenever possible on each patient- although, there are some cases when the cuff does not fit the patient.
I have cleaned incisions and applied preparations for Dr. Kelly and treatments, such as ace wraps, cotton wraps and alcohol rubs. I have prepared patient rooms prior to their arrival by changing the paper on the exam table, wiping the counters when necessary, and spraying the room with disinfectant spray. I also discard of any bio-hazardous materials when necessary.
I have assisted with transferring patients in and out of wheelchairs and adaptive equipment. Most of the patients we see have severe arthritis, pain, or fractures and are not able to walk or retain mobility. I have gone out to patients vehicles and helped them into the wheelchair, as well. I have sufficiently kept examination rooms stocked with necessary supplies, equipment and instruments such as suture removal kits, staple remover kits, betadine swabs, gauze, band-aids, and alcohol swabs. I also have expierience in ordering all the necessary supplies for the entire clinic such as: cast tape, cotton rolls, stitches and staples remover kits, suture kits, betadine swabs, ace wraps, boot brace walkers, wrist braces, etc. I have been able to provide personal nursing care in pre- and post-operative situations. I have recognized and reported abnormalities and/or changes in patients' health status to nursing staff.
I have been able to provide patients and families with emotional support for the various surgical procedures Dr. Kelly performs and the recoveries endured by each patient. I have comforted patients and provided them with reassurance and encouragement during their recovery.
I have promoted personal and co-worker safety in various situations. We wear gloves when touching patients and in post operative clinic visits. In that, I have helped maintain a clean, orderly and well-stocked environment for both the patients and the staff of River Valley Orthopedics.
Minor in biology.
I am currently a student working on my bachelors degree. I plan on applying to PA school next year.
