To attain a position where my skills in team work, training experience, customer service, attention to detail, and multitasking can be put to use in conjunction with my extensive background in English--reading, writing, and editing--to a meaningful end. As an English major and History minor at UVM, I spent the majority of my time at the university reading, researching, analyzing, and drawing conclusions. Completing 45 hours of English study, I concentrated my learning in Women's writing and American Romanticism. In history study, I concentrated my efforts on American history, specifically military engagements. While I found my courses at UVM challenging, I never lost sight of my goals to make my skills with the English language a bigger part of my life.
Fast-paced eatery in Massachusetts, I worked as a line cook and front end team member. Multitasking, patience, and peaceful public interaction were key aspects of this job.
As part of UVM's work-study program, I became involved in the Athletics Department, organizing and carrying out promotional events for the Division 1 university. These were team-orientated, timed events that occurred in-game as well as before and after the sporting events. Multitasking and attention to detail were a must, as promotions were timed to the second. By my third year at UVM, I was expected to train and guide younger employees through the night's responsibilities, taking pride in preparing our team for game time.
Two years serving experience in a fast-paced downtown eatery. Multitasking, patience, and public interaction were focal points at this job.
In my time at Manhattan Pizza & Pub I trained numerous kitchen employees and supervised during the night shift. I helped in the development of a new menu after my first year of employment, and detailed how each menu item was to be prepared and plated, creating a uniform standard for the kitchen. As a line cook, I honed my attention to detail and skills at performing many tasks at once while offering direction to others on my kitchen team.
Since coming to Burlington Labs in March, I have been assigned various tasks within the billing department. While the world of insurance companies and medical claims is new and foreign to me, I have been able to successfully employ my skills in researching to adapt to the task at hand. From paper filing to web research to person to person phone interaction, I have moved between projects without difficulty.
