PROJECT PARTICIPATION: PROJECT I - Lane Departure Warning System (LDW) for Duro Auto o Defined a system specification based on ISO 17361:2007 LDW standard and requirements. o Developed effective decision-making algorithm using road curvature prediction model based on thresholds as defined by specifications and tested in SimCreator driving simulator. o Utilized vehicle CAN bus messages to test the algorithm in Ford Fusion, and reported findings to supplier. PROJECT II - Lane Change/Merge for Longitudinally-Controlled Connected Vehicles (in progress) o Conceptualize and construct a hybrid control system model to achieve Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) functionality with three controllers selected by Finite State Machine (FSM) based on corresponding scenarios. o Implement model based longitudinal controller that guarantees the safety of vehicle while lane changing. o Generate highly detailed reports to explain system design with simulation results delivered to verify design. o Investigate strategies of optimization and execution lane change, weave, merge, and de-merge vehicle operations to complement automated longitudinal control with the purpose of increasing roadway throughput and driving safety; possibly establishing cooperation between vehicles to first create space, then advise drivers on potential lane change opportunities. Vehicle System Dynamics & Control - Vehicle dynamics modeling and nonlinear system control techniques; o Project I - Constructed recursive lease-squared estimators to simultaneously estimate vehicle mass and road gradient in real-time using CarSim and Matlab/Simulink co-simulation environment. o Project II - Implemented model-based vehicle stability control system to stabilize vehicle by tracking desired vehicle yaw rate and sideslip angle using optimum tire force distribution.
