I'm a highly energetic, optimistic, and driven educator with strategic planning skills. I have experience creating and implementing strategies for improvement and change as well as media relations. Being a business owner in Yukon has helped me develop constructive relationships with a wide range of business and community leaders. As a former student, I am grateful for the education I received here and I believe that Yukon Public Schools has helped shape me into the person I am today. I am passionate about Yukon Public Schools, it's future success and it's steadfast commitment to Excellence in Education.
In 2010, I initiated and developed a fifth grade advanced math program in Yukon Public Schools, allowing high achieving math students the ability to skip fifth grade math and work in a sixth grade text. This included developing gatekeepers for admittance, curriculum development, and curriculum implementation. Advanced math has been highly successful at Independence Elementary and was later adopted by Lakeview Elementary. I also developed advanced writing and advanced Social Studies programs as well as an after school student Technology Team.
I added a library and learning center to a HUD housing project in Duncan, Oklahoma. This included project development, soliciting donations, overseeing the implementation, and training parents and other volunteers.
In 1998, I was chosen as the Teacher of the Year at Bryant Elementary in Moore Public Schools.
My job has proven to be very exciting and challenging. It is multifaceted. The bulk of my responsibility is developing and implementing curriculum for K-5th grade gifted students. I work daily with fourth and fifth graders as well as serve as a resource teacher to K-3 gifted students at Myers, Parkland, Shedeck and Surrey Hills Elementary schools. My responsibilities at the PK-3 sites include generating referrals, assisting classroom teachers with differentiated instruction, and communicating with parents. In 2010-2011, I also resourced at Skyview and Ranchwood Elementary schools.
I work closely with K-5 teachers to identify candidates for the GE program. I initiate the process of evaluation for admittance. I communicate with parents of the candidates and explain the benefits of the program as well as receive their consent for testing. I administer several IQ tests including the Kaufmann Brief Intelligence Test, the Naglieri Nonverbal Ability Test, and the CogAt (Cognitive Abilities Test) to referred students in all K-3 buildings as well as IES. I score the tests, build profiles for referred students and submit the data to the office of Student Academic Services for placement decisions.
I have been a training facilitator for Staff Development Office every year since I've worked in Yukon Public Schools. I serve as a communication link between Mr. Denton, Dr. Rhodes and the faculty at Independence Elementary as a member of the FCC. I am currently on the Independence Elementary Leadership Team as well as the Literacy Advisory Committee.
I built two dental practices as a business partner. I oversaw the physical construction of the practices as well as the purchasing of equipment, hiring, management, and motivation of staff, payroll, taxes, advertising, community outreach, marketing and publicity. When we moved our practice to Yukon, I formed relationships with other business owners in our community by joining the Chamber of Commerce and attending weekly community coffee meetings. We were selected as new business of the year and voted Yukon's best dentist three consecutive years. We also worked closely with Yukon Public Schools to provide emergency care for students in need.
I led a fundraising campaign for the school affiliated with the church, on a tight budget, raising over $130,000.00. As a part of our marketing campaign I implemented many strategies to promote and grow our church and school including developing the first logo which you might see on vehicles around Yukon. During my time in public relations at our church, membership increased to over 1, 000 and the school saw significant growth in enrollment.
I handled all aspects of the business. Reported directly to the CEO. I supervised employees, handled large amounts of cash, did payroll, managed and paid taxes, provided customer service, coordinated property leases and had direct contact with property owners in the Oklahoma City downtown area.
I taught Kindergarten, Transitional First Grade, and First Grade. I was chosen as part of the opening faculty at Bryant Elementary. I served on our school's Great Expectations Implementation Team. I collaborated with other teachers to develop "Bryant Celebrates". This program recognized student successes and helped build a positive school climate. It is still in use today. I worked several years as a supervisor of student teachers as well as entry level teachers. I served on the Superintendent's Advisory Council and was part of the curriculum selection teams for Math and Reading district wide curriculum adoptions. I was chosen as Teacher of the Year in 1998.
I developed a program for patients suffering from anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder. I consulted and collaborated with staff members and the resident psychiatrist.
