As a family Nanny I engage with children, providing nurturing, safe environments to promote emotional, social and intellectual growth. I currently Nanny for two families, the Mothers are sisters. I work with the ages 1- 12. I help the children complete homework and special assignments daily to support academic performance. I monitor playtime to prevent overuse of technology, television or other detrimental influences. During nap time I take the time to get things done around the house. I have a solid two hours to get dishes, laundry, organizing, sanitizing things, preparing lunch/dinner and up keeping of the house all done. I regulate the children's schedules to balance rest, learning and play. After dinner I do bed time routine with the children. I get them all ready for bath-time, pajama-time, bed-time stories , and then off to bed with their bottles. I also help with dressing, teeth brushing, and diapering to promote healthy personal hygiene and good oral health. I make it priority to change diapers instantly when they wake up from sleep and whenever I know there needs to be a diaper change. Cooking nutritious meals to promote healthy diet and nutrition is very important to me. I make sure the children are getting what their body needs. With behavior I promote working together when there is conflict to solve the problem. I teach them to listen and be understanding of one another. Teaching the children safe behavior such as seeking for an adult assistance when crossing the street and avoiding contact with unsafe objects. I emphasize to the children if they are every in need of anything to always come to me and I make them feel comfortable to approach me with anything. Making the environment for the children to be a safe and full of endless love one is important to me.
I was a camp counselor for several years starting as a CIT (Counselor In Training) to moving up as a regular counselor. As a camp counselor I Promoted monthly events and activities to increase participation and revenue. I was in charge of the Talent shows to motivate children to share their talents with their peers. I observed participants for signs of physical distress and stopped activity to administer care. During lunch time I observed the most to see if some children were eating alone, to make sure that I can sit with them and make sure they aren't alone. If they were willing to make a friend, I'd be there to support and help them do so. I also engaged in arts and crafts, sports, activities, games and field trips while maintaining a safe environment. During field trips I would be sure to keep my eyes on the group of children I was assigned and to also be aware of my surroundings at all times. I enforced discipline and policies to protect safety of recreational activity participants. Promoting fun, safe, and an inclusive environment by monitoring activity of campers to identify and address behavioral issues is very important to me. I wanted the kids to look forward to waking up and coming to camp in the mornings, but at the same time I used discipline and made sure everyone was acting appropriately and using manners no matter what the children were engaging with.
As an Aftercare Counselor I implemented intervention plans to reduce negative behaviors. If I coordinated an activity and saw negative behavior, I would call a time out and we would discuss as a group how we can change this to positive behavior. During homework time I assessed students needs and identified special goals to improve academic performance. I made sure to assist the children who needed extra help and encouraged them when they were successfully learning. I enforced rules to teach manners and maintain a safe environment. I always told the children " If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all ". I emphasized how important it is to be kind to one another. During aftercare when the children got picked up I would communicate with the parents or guardians about daily activities, behaviors and upcoming events. Safety is very important to me and practicing fire drills and how to act during them, we practiced once a month. The aftercare environment I made a fun, loving a safe one. All of the children in the program looked forward coming to aftercare after a long day of school.
