I bring experience in most every department required to operate a successful business in the current regulatory environment. I am intelligent, well educated, learn quickly and can become proficient in a variety of roles. I no longer have the desire to invest the hours required to master an environment and develop and execute the corrective action required to manage an entire operation. I would be happy to find a role within a 40-hour work week. While most of my experience is in managing others, I am happy to play any type of support role from typing and filling to operating a lift truck. General Management Extensive experience including start-ups, acquisitions, and turnarounds. Ran five businesses for a privately held business for over 20 years. I negotiated the sale of all five companies over a 10-year period. The last company sold was sold into a 2-year old consortium made up of five other wood preserving plants in the mid-south, all of which, had been privately held family businesses. I became the Vice President and General Manager of this new operation with combined sales of 55 million annually. These businesses were set up and operated in dramatically different ways than that to which I was accustomed. My priorities were to bring about compliance, get each on the same software, identify sources and uses of funds for each operation, normalize benefits and pay structures as much as possible as quickly as possible, and develop a capital improvement budget for each operation. These objectives required large amounts of times and living out of motels and airports. One of my primary objectives was to develop the managerial talent. Much time was spent developing/training new (not necessarily young) supervisors-mentored many management level employees over the years. Successfully fought off a Teamster unionization attempt. Negotiated six contracts between the union and company. Supervised the successful conversion of mission critical software applications, which required a significant amount of data mapping and data migration. Negotiated import and export contracts with Mexican and Canadian customers and suppliers. Negotiated trade agreements with Mexican and Peru. Acted as project manager for the design and construction of an automating processes. I have experience operating Transportation Companies, Specialized Electronics operations for high performance automobiles, operating organic, inorganic, hazardous and dangerous chemical based operations, and an Environmental Testing Laboratory. Financial Developed and implemented performance reviews, established goals and objectives for each operation, and a planning and budgeting process. Converted each operation to a common software packaged giving us a true relational data base, which allowed for better management of cash (sources and uses of funds), inventory and evaluate each area against plan and prior periods. Developed a talent for forecasting, budgeting and planning. Sales and Marketing My first promotion was into a sales position where I enjoyed being mentored by an industry expert and long-time leader of one of the largest companies in our industry. I learned how to develop and implement marketing strategies and plans. Developed and monitor sales forecasts for all divisions. Prepare and conduct presentations at trade shows, seminars and national conventions. Successfully developed new products for sale and distribution. Most importantly developed the interpersonal skills to be successful in most any environment. Environmental, Health and Safety Most of the laws or standards that exist today didn't exist when I began my career, so I grew up reading the Federal Register and have developed extensive knowledge and experience with interpretation and administration of regulatory standards. I am a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager as well as being certified to package and ship dangerous goods. Over the years, I have negotiated with various region EPA offices, IDEM, OSHA, DOT, and a variety of governmental entities. Authored and implemented compliance programs including training for each new written standard requiring specific actions on the part of industry-Written Hazard Communication Standards, LOTO, Electrical Safety, Forklift training and safety, Hygiene standards, and Confined Space Standards, to name a few. I also audited sites under my control. I enjoyed a unique opportunity to learn from the ground up in five different types of businesses. I have spent significant time running Human Resources, Health and Safety, Environmental Management, Materials Management, Warehousing and Transportation, and information management. Much of my success came from training and development of our most valuable resource and fostering an environment that challenges and offers opportunities for growth. Surrounding yourself with talented people usually makes for improved performance.
