I achieved National Board Certified Teacher status in 2009. I was honored as “Teacher of the Year” and I had an annual dedicated to me in a combined elementary and middle school in a NC public school. I was selected by the faculty/staff to receive the Faculty Spirit Award for inspiring and encouraging all students for three separate years at Forsyth Country Day.
I sponsored an after school youth leadership club with 95% African American and Hispanic students for six years in a Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Elementary School. We met with as many as 50 students twice per month and learned sports and games, but prior to each activity I brought in successful African American and Hispanic men to share with our students. The men taught brief lessons in responsibility, persistence, the value of education, how to handle money, and have self-respect and respect for others. We supported a charity called “Walk for Water Africa” to build and repair wells in African villages. We also took the young men fishing each year and for most it was their first time.
My certification is K-12 in H & PE and I am certified in Exceptional Children with two years teaching high school inclusion. I am a certified First Tee character development instructor working for three years with First Tee of the Triad. I have certifications in Spark Curriculum, Hopsports and as a USTA tennis instructor.
In High School, I helped my football, basketball and baseball teams to conference championships and beyond. As a college athlete, I was all conference, MVP and won the Hustle Award. As an adult I was on a National Championship tennis team. I have been blessed with a wonderful wife of 30 years and we have two fantastic children ages 26 and 22. If hired, I will do my best to uplift and inspire all students to succeed and help them develop a vision and dream for a worthwhile and productive life.
