Taught Senior British Literature. Implemented remedial programs for students requiring extra help with the assistance of an Intervention Specialist. Incorporated engaging texts and media to enhance literacy skills and foster a fun and engaging learning environment. I also taught two classes of Read 180 where I planned and conducted hands-on activities to provide students with the necessary scaffolding to become successful not only in Read 180, but also their Freshman English class. Finally, I taught a class entitled Sports in Literature where we looked at how literature has influenced sports. The class had an open curriculum, which allowed me to really come up with unique projects like Creating Your Own Sport and a Media Guide highlighting Colerain High School sports teams. Through all of these courses I used a variety of teaching methods such as lectures, discussions and demonstrations.
Taught Senior World Literature spanning Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, and Ancient Europe. Integrated technology into the curriculum to develop students' word processing, research, and MLA skills though a Persuasive Research Paper. I also taught a Creative Writing class where we focused on breaking down the elements of selected genres and creating short stories, poetry, fractured fairy tales, and autobiographies. Finally, I taught a Journalism class that created a school newsletter every two weeks.
Taught Sophomore World Literature through thematic sections including Fables and Folktales, Destiny and Fate, and Non-fiction Literature Circles. Worked cooperatively with an Intervention Specialist to modify curricula for special education students according to Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Taught a Mystery and Horror elective class that included students from all grade levels (9-12).
