My professional background includes 4 major jobs--along with many smaller, personal endeavors--and an undergraduate degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics at Carroll University. I began working at 15 in my
stepfather's café, Café Firefly, as a barista, tending to the drinks, food, baking, and cleaning, most of the time by myself.
Almost everyday after school, I would drive over and manage the store and close up. This particular job lasted over 2
years for me, and honed my conversational skills, time management, and ability to work under stress. While doing this, I
got onto the payroll for my father's company, GFX International, and began riding along with him to help hang up the
graphics that our company had printed in stores such as Thorntons gas stations, Ulta beauty stores, or Meijer's
markets. Since then, I have been working with GFX every summer for the last 5 years whenever jobs were available, and it
has strengthened my patience, independence, and level of professional discourse. During the end of the summer of 2013,
and throughout the summer of '14 (in addition to working with GFX), I did contractor work with a electrician construction
team, T&R Communications, for phone companies like Verizon and T-Mobil, upgrading the electronics at cell phone
towers. This job was technical and labor-intensive, requiring both electrician knowledge and skill, as well long hours
digging trenches to lay wires. This work taught me to work with diligence, better respect a boss's orders, and in
particular, that there is usually no easy way out of doing work, so one must simply buckle down and complete the task at
hand with as little time wasted. Finally, the last major job I worked was for the factory aspect of GFX, repeatedly boxing up
graphics and then taping up the boxes. I only worked this for the winter of 2014, but it too taught me patience and
diligence, considering I performed the same menial tasks day-in and day-out for months. Most recently, I worked on-campus research
assistant for Professor Pascal Engelmajer at Carroll University, sorting quietly through scholarly sources, and
scanning them for information useful to the articles and books my professor is writing. In my time at Carroll University, I spent the length of my senior-year fall semester in China for a study abroad program. While studying Chinese in Chengdu, China, I taught English part-time at Chengdu College for Radio and Television, and made meaningful connections that would allow for an easy and lucrative return to China should I so desire. Aside from Chinese, I have also studied German for 7 years, and I have just finished a semester of learning Sanskrit. I believe I am incredibly
well-rounded, as I have been able to successfully adapt to any and all job-requirements and social environments I have faced so far.
