Supervising up to 38 law enforcement and civilian employees, coordinating schedules and effective use of available manpower to successfully complete any task/assignment.
District Commander performs administrative duties necessary for efficient operation of Department personnel under his/her command, including planning, conducting and monitoring of all field operations occurring within his/her District ( 4 WV Counties) and correlation of activities and duties of members and civilian employees assigned to his/her command.
-Responsible for scheduling of all members and civilian employees within his/her supervisory command. District Commander is also responsible for proper care and use of Department issued, owned or leased property under his/her supervision and for maintenance of discipline on part of all members assigned to the District. Actively participates in all law enforcement efforts, investigation of criminal complaints and motor vehicle accidents, patrol of state roads and highways and any other duties or responsibilities as legally required of, or permitted to, members of the Department.
-Responsible for observance of Department rules, regulations and other Department directives by all members and civilian employees assigned to his/her command and shall ensure proper personal appearance of all members and civilian employees.
-Responsible for observance of established Department chain of command by all members and civilian employees assigned to his/her respective command.
-Makes written reports to Troop Commander of any misconduct, failure in performance of duty, disobedience of orders, violation of any Department rule, regulation or other directive, or any other action or lack of action on part of any member assigned to District when such act would require disciplinary action inquiry.
-Responsible for accuracy and timely submission of all investigation reports, criminal and traffic, submitted by members within District and shall review such reports to establish compliance.
-Responsible for proper use, maintenance, necessary replacement and security of all general equipment assigned to and used by members of District.
-Responsible for proper storage, maintenance and security of all criminal evidence stored or maintained by members of his/her command.
District Commander may direct temporary movement, placement or consolidation of members within his/her command to meet requirements of criminal investigations, criminal apprehension or emergencies resulting from natural or manmade disasters, riots, civil disturbances or other causes. District Commander shall personally command or otherwise take charge at scene of any such disaster, riot, civil disturbance or other emergency, which occurs within his/her District.
